Te Ara Tika is a 90-minute online programme designed specifically for Boards of Trustees in the Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) region.  It bridges the gap between legal obligations and authentic community engagement by grounding governance practices in the unique history and context of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, providing practical insights applicable across Aotearoa, New Zealand.  

Programme content:

The 90-minute session covers the following areas:

• Te Whanganui-a-Tara and Te Tiriti o Waitangi: Exploring the historical landscape and dynamics shaping local education, moving beyond compliance to give genuine effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

• Iwi and Mana Whenua Relationships: Examining iwi and mana whenua relationships in the context of the education system, and integrating local iwi education plans into school strategy, and local curriculum design.

• Cultural Responsiveness in Schools: Exploring practical ways to normalise te reo and tikanga Māori within schools, while recognising and honouring significant Māori events and milestones within the school calendar and curriculum.
