This course offers an engaging exploration of Māori identity and authority, focusing on the concept of mana whenua—its meaning, the people who hold it, and the vital roles they play within their communities.

Aku Taonga is a mana whenua course for Te Whanganui-ā-Tara (Wellington Harbour), endorsed by the Wellington Tenths Trust and the Palmerston North Māori Reserves Trust. It explores local kōrero tuku iho (ancestral stories) from a Taranaki iwi perspective, using Te Ōhākī a Te Wharepōuri (Aspirations of Te Wharepōuri) as its foundation. By the course's end, participants will understand how Taranaki iwi embody the aspirations of Te Wharepōuri as mana whenua.
