Our Purpose
Building cultural competency and confidence in Te Ao Māori.
At Manako, our purpose is to design and deliver cultural training programmes and services that build cultural competency and confidence in Te Ao Māori. We work with individuals and organisations to increase their awareness and appreciation of Māori culture, and apply this learning in ways that enrich their lives, workplaces, and communities.
Our Vision
To embed Te Ao Māori at the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand’s identity, so that Māori culture is not only valued and embraced, but celebrated as the cornerstone of who we are as a nation.
Our Mission
To empower a new generation of culturally intelligent leaders by building the cultural competency and confidence of 10,000 individuals and transforming the culture of 100 partner organisations by 2035. Through this work we aim to become Aotearoa New Zealand's most trusted source for Māori cultural capability.
Cultural Intelligence (often called CQ) is an individual's capability to function effectively in culturally diverse settings.
Our Values
Mana is at core of who we are at Manako. It is an inherent way of being, and is all encompassing in guiding how we work and our everyday practices. Mana is about caring for others, and acknowledging the value of everyone and everything around us. Mana grounds us and ensures we treat others with respect and dignity. Mana is the heartbeat of Manako.
Manaakitanga - Looking after others and ensuring they feel valued and safe. Our focus is looking after others and making sure they feel empowered and uplifted as part of their Manako experience.
Wairuatanga - Connecting the 'heart' with the 'hands'. We strive to ensure that we acknowledge and recognise the heart space and not just the head space. We always ensure that we value the 'feel in the room'.
Rangatiratanga - Leadership is core to our work and it underpins everything we do. Our leadership approach is based on empowering others to take action.
Kaitiakitanga - We want to create a better future for generations to come. We have a responsibility to ensure that Te Ao Māori is visible, embraced, and embedded across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Whanaungatanga - Relationships and connections are at the core of our work. We create safe spaces that bring people together to build and strengthen enduring connections. We want people to feel safe and part of the Manako whānau.
